- 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 small onion grated
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion thinly sliced
- 8 oz cremini or white button mushrooms sliced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Prepare the Meatballs:
In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, egg, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs.
Cook the Meatballs:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a tablespoon of olive oil.
Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
Make the Gravy:In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the onions and mushrooms, cooking until softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
Sprinkle in the flour, stirring to coat the vegetables. Cook for 2 minutes.
Gradually add the beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Mix in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, mustard, and ketchup. Bring to a simmer.
Combine and Simmer:
Return the meatballs to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
Lower the heat, cover, and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the meatballs are fully cooked and the gravy thickens.
