For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Ganache:
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
Toppings:
- Mini chocolate chips
- Chocolate shavings
- Chopped chocolate candy bars e.g., Snickers, Twix
- Chocolate syrup optional
Prepare the Cake Layers:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Let cool completely.
Make the Ganache:
Heat cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it simmers.
Pour over chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth. Cool slightly.
Assemble the Cake:
Place one cake layer on a plate, spread ganache, and top with the second layer.
Pour remaining ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
