  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Ganache:

  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Toppings:

  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Chopped chocolate candy bars e.g., Snickers, Twix
  • Chocolate syrup optional

Instructions

Prepare the Cake Layers:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
  • Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Let cool completely.

Make the Ganache:

  • Heat cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it simmers.
  • Pour over chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth. Cool slightly.

Assemble the Cake:

  • Place one cake layer on a plate, spread ganache, and top with the second layer.
  • Pour remaining ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.

Add Toppings:

  • Sprinkle chocolate chips, shavings, and chopped candy bars over the ganache. Drizzle chocolate syrup if desired.
